Gino was Dux of Wanganui Park Secondary College in 1984.
After Wanganui, Gino studied at Monash University and received a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, as well as a Bachelor of Medical Science.
He started training to become a pathologist after realizing he was more interested in the study of disease rather than the operations themselves and completed a PhD in pathology at University of Melbourne and Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute in 1999.
He finished pathology training in 2002 which made the total time studying after high school 15 years. Medicine 7 years; PhD 4 years; pathology training 4 years.
Gino currently lives in Toronto and works as a pathologist at the Hospital for Sick Children, the largest paediatric hospital in North America. He has a research laboratory, looking at finding better ways to treat cancer in children, and works with the Coroner's office to investigate suspicious childhood deaths in the Province of Ontario.
