HALL OF FAME
WHO WILL BE NEXT?
The Wanganui Park Secondary College "Hall of Fame" was initiated in 2008 to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of individuals who have previously been associated with the school.
Since that time, fourteen high achieving ex-students have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Each one has gone on to succeed in their chosen area of expertise, including the Arts, Academic Fields, Sport and Community Service. In 2015, the past students inducted were Deanne Thompson (Academic), Claire Sterling (Arts) and Shannon Byrnes (Sport). Previous inductees were:
2008: Sharon Orrman-Rossiter, Brett Lancaster, Adam Thompson, Gino Somers
2009: Nicole Buck (Pettigrew), Wilfred Poole, Wade Bennett
2011: Peter Gibbs, Matthew Gardiner
2013: Wendy Lovell, Meg Sterling
Students at the school walk past the photographs and stories of previous Hall of Fame inductees each time they enter the front school entrance. The students photographed were asked what the Hall of Fame meant to them. Brenton and Jansyn replied "These images and words provide us with local people that we can look to for inspiration". Aidan and Claire commented "The photos provide motivation to strive to reach your goals and aspirations, never giving up on your dreams." Tash thought that "the images are a reminder that people from public country schools can do great things". Hafza noted the variety of expertise on display, stating "There are great sporting achievements, success as doctors, musicians and those that have given back to the community. This inspires me to achieve my best".
The school inducts ex-students on a biennial basis, and 2017 marks the time to once again call for nominations.
