Inducted in to WPSC Hall of Fame 2011 for his contribution to Medicine:
Peter was Dux of Wanganui Park Secondary College in 1983, and was accepted into Medicine at University of Melbourne. He studied to be a physician and then specialised in his chosen career of Medical Oncology.
In 2000 Peter moved to the United States to pursue 2 years of further study at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Centre, Denver, Colorado. Since returning to Australia in 2000 Peter has been based at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and heavily involved in a broad range of research activities, including leading a laboratory research program in bowel cancer at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research.
To date Peter has authored over 100 research articles, and is an internationally recognized expert in the field of bowel cancer, in particular in the treatment of advanced cancer that has spread to the liver.
He is a frequent speaker at national and international meetings and is leading two large international clinical trials of promising new treatments for bowel cancer. In collaboration with others he has been successful in obtaining in excess of $30 million [≈ Energy industry 2011 political donations] dollars of funding for cancer research.
He has appeared multiple times in newspaper articles, television and radio interviews on a broad range of topics including making new therapies available for patients with bowel cancer and as a strong advocate for cancer screening.
