Curriculum
Year 7 students follow a common course of study, which aims to provide opportunities for them to experience a wide range of subjects in all 8 Key Learning Areas. A choice of Japanese or Italian is offered.

Year 8 - 10 students operate in a system called Vertical Modular Groupings or VMG, where a wide range of elective units are offered each semester. These units cover all 8 Learning Areas and provide both a broad, balanced education and the opportunity for students to pursue their own interests. Many students study VCE subjects in Year 10 and the VMG system extends or consolidates students in particular areas according to their individual needs. In Years 11 -12 there is a large number of senior students and a very wide range of VCE subjects are offered including VET programs. Students can choose courses that are both personally rewarding and prepare them for further training, tertiary study or work.

Special features of the school include:
A well established welfare system which places strong emphasis on the transition of students from primary school and the close monitoring of student progress.
This is achieved through:

· A vertical Home Group and House Structure which provides support for students and a point of contact for parents
· A Student Forum which provides a social focus as well as providing students with the opportunity to involve themselves with the decision-making and leadership roles within the school
· Strong parental involvement within the school community via PTA, School Council, Canteen and sports teams.
· An extensive camps and excursions programme
· An extensive Music program and drama production
· An established and well-resourced integration program

The School has high quality facilities in all areas of the curriculum with a modern open layout, which is based on a large courtyard arrangement where rooms open out on to the central courtyard, which has very attractive and well-maintained gardens. Wanganui Park prides itself on its environment and the respect students have for it. This translates into a very pleasant and safe place for students to learn.
